In December 2011 Bradford Central Library was closed for health and safety reasons. Since then many of its collections have been moved to other libraries. On 9th December 2013 a part of the ground floor was re-opened as a refurbished Local Studies and a WYAS Archives Bradford Branch.
The address is: Local Studies Library, Old Central Library, Princes Way, Bradford, BD1 1NN
The entrance is now on the end of the building, away from the National Media Museum, and the old entrance to the former Central Library.
Access is wheelchair friendly and there is Blue Badge parking outside the entrance. William Street and Sharp Street lead to this, passing public parking areas. There is no direct vehicle access from Prince’s Way.
Monday – Thursday; 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Friday & Saturday: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
There is free access to Ancestry, Find My Past, Origins and British Newspapers using your Bradford library card or by booking a computer for Family History Research.
Guides which will help pre-planning for any visit are available;. They give information about the use of material and then list what is normally available without pre-booking. Click here for more information on the guides.
There is a large amount of material readily available but much more stored in the basement. It may be requested at any time but pre-ordering, if possible, would be appreciated.
